I thought it would be nice to discuss other great TV...here's my top TV shows:
1. The West Wing (the Sorkin years made this the funniest, smartest show in the history of the world) 2. Buffy (what else???) 3. Angel (so dark and funny and annoyingly brilliant) =. Firefly (just annoyingly brilliant -- why did this show get axed?) =. Veronica Mars (the best drama on the air right now) 6. Sports Night (funny, funny, funny) 7. Big Brother (UK) (guilty pleasure) 8. Scrubs (so so so funny) =. Frasier (funny, smart and did I mention it was funny?) 10. Becker (the most underrated show ever)
I'm really hoping that Studio 60 will cut in somewhere up the top there...

On the air now: #1-Scrubs, by far and away the best show on television. Nobody mixes comedy and drama as well since, well... Aaron Sorkin.
#2-The Office- Steve Carell is excellent but what makes the show great is the superb performances by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. Plus, they had one of the best season finales any show has had in years. Mark my words... Steve Carell will win 2 Emmys this year. One for acting, and one for writing the season finale
#3 The Daily Show- Still in peak shape even without a presidential race feeding it material.
#4 The Colbert Report- He is hysterical. Our modern-day Jonathan Swift.
#5 Boston Legal- James Spader = best actor on TV. William Shatner is equally funny.
Shows now off the air: #1 Frasier- I always get a good belly laugh or two with every episode. The dynamic of the relationship between Frasier, Niles, and their father surpasses any on TV that has come before. David Hyde Pierce is a comic genius.
#2 West Wing- self-explanatory
#3 Mary Tyler Moore- Hysterically funny and groundbreaking sitcom. It was smart, and the best character written show ever in TV. Betty White and Chloris Leachman are the unsung heroes of that show.
#4 All in the Family- It's a pleasure to be able to watch the interaction of Jean Stapleton and Carroll O'Connor. Jean Stapleton is the best actress in TV hisotry.
#5 Arrested Development- Never failed to please. Michael Cera is a star on the rise. He constantly got the biggest laughs in that show.

On air now: - Scrubs, for all the reasons that have already been said. - Veronica Mars, simply the best-written drama on TV right now. - House, which is pure and simple love. - Battlestar Galactica, because I'm a sci-fi geek. - Stargate Atlantis, for the same reason, even if I do want to strangle the writers for the majority of the time. - Spicks and Specks and Thank God You're Here, the first good Aussie TV shows in yonks.
No longer on the air: - The West Wing, pre-season 5. - Sports Night, which surely needs no explanation. - Frontline, which simply cannot be widely enough watched. Over ten years old and it's still hysterically funny, and it's still a completely accurate (if not more so) commentary on current affairs programs. - Firefly, whyyyyyyyyyy? - Wonderfalls, one of the best-written shows Fox had and thus of course cancelled in short order.
Edit: Okay, I've gotta add M*A*S*H, which I shockingly just discovered and already love to death. They really don't make 'em like they used to.

On Air: The Daily Show and The Colbert Report - The show that has been "appointment teevee" longer than anything else I watch Veronica Mars - I second Jess. Best show on television right now. House - I originally started watching this for RSL, but I've grown to love it so much. Season two started off pretty bad, but it's been better the past few weeks. CSI - But not really. I mostly watch reruns. This season has been lackluster and the finale left me a little peeved. Law and Orders of All Sorts - although mostly it's MotherShip reruns, these days. I haven't been into the Mothership since Jerry Orbach died. I still watch SVU and CI, though.
Off Air: The West Wing and Sports Night which clearly need no explanation The X-Files - my first show. Awww. Buffy - Only up until season five-ish. That show reached it's peak at season two. Firefly - Great characters, great story
I also watch the news. A lot. Far too much. I have favorite newscasters. (Dan Abrams and I are tight.) Also [adult swim] and basically any crime/procedural teevee reruns I stumble across.

I can't believe out of all the classic TV shows everyone's mentioned, no one mentioned I Love Lucy. It was truly a pioneering show in more than one way. I mean, that show dealt with issues that at the time were taboo when it came to television (for instance, Lucy's pregnacy). Also what few people know is that while Desi Arnaz got most of the credit, Lucille Ball had a lot to do with that show's production. Sorry, I'm a bit of a scholar when it comes to I Love Lucy. I did a paper in college about Lucille Ball and her contribution to the early feminist movement, so that's how I know.
Of course I have to agree everyone who said House. That's a really good show. A friend got me hooked on it. And I loved Sports Night. I also think Crossing Jordan's pretty good too.
Of course, I'm hoping that Studio 60 becomes one of these unforgettable shows. At least it will in the minds of people like us, wouldn't it?

On Air:
1.) Scrubs- Without a doubt the funniest show on television to me.
2.) The Office- If only it were still paired with Scrubs
3.) House- A good medical drama with a leading character unlike many others
4.) Bones- Some of the best give-and-take of any non-Sorkin show, although I think some of it may be accidental
5.) Monk- I love this show. Its not the greatest, but the storylines have been pretty good.
6.) Daily Show/Colbert Report- I love that hour each night.
Off Air:
1.) Sports Night
2.) West Wing
3.) NewsRadio
4.) Arrested Development
5.) Wings

On Air:
1.) Scrubs- Fantastic smartness
2.) The Simpsons - Yes, it's cool to mock it now, it's not been stunning for years, but.. it still shines like a diamond
3.) My Name Is Earl - It takes very clever people to be that stupid
4.) Life On Mars - Mancunian asshole coppers? It's like my teenage years, with less flares
5.) Veronica Mars - Simply rockstar TV.
6) Arrested Development - Maybe the best sitcom of the last five years, TV that rewards you for paying attention, for watching again and again, so worth it for thos little moments you catch, Jumping the shark... Snoopy... theres too many to list. Ended too early, but ended well, legendary TV in years to come.
7) Spaced - Almost sorta like a British reflex to Friends... almost. 12 episodes of fried comedy gold, if you've never seen it I can't recomend it highly enough.
8) Firefly - Sometimes its better to burn out than to fade away. I'm looking at you Buffy! Series 8 as a comic? NO! BAD! Put the comic scripts down Whedon, back away from X-Men as well while we're at it.
9) Futurama - It gets better each and every time you watch it. A cartoon thats funny, touching and never less than a good solid half hour
10) Angel/DS9 - Lumping these together, because they're good for the same reason. The underapreciated little brother show, DS9 was ignored in favor of Voyager, Angel for Buffy. Being ignored was good for them, they both became dark mature shows, yes they were about aliens and vampires, but they were also about war, and growing up, and sometimes James Bond episodes, or puppets.
11) Some Mothers Do Have 'em - I have no idea why I love it but I do.
12) Black Books - Drunk people in a book shop shouting, shouldn't be funny, but it is.
13) The League Of Genltmen - Nasty horror disguised as a BBC2 comedy, May have broken a generation of children.
14) DCAU - Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited - Kicks 11 kinds of ass
I gotta stop that now... I could be here all night.

I'll call these my all-time favorites. They're no longer on TV (at least in a couple cases, they're still on but no longer quality) and I live through them in DVDland. West Wing (Sorkin years) X-Files (1-7) ER (Clooney years) Sports Night CSI: Original Recipe (first 3 or so... when it was still about science) The only shows I watch regularly/obsessively now are 24 and The Daily Show. And Studio 60

How could we forget Cupid?
I swear, watching that show (on bootleg DVD's as it's never been released!) you'd think Aaron Sorkin watched it too as it came out about a year or two before Sports Night and has many of the same themes and share a common "feel".
Good show!

YES!!! God I loved that show, I laid up in bed and cried for weeks when I found out that show got canceled... well not really, but thats how it felt.
On now: Scrubs (On an intellectual level I can understand why people wouldn't list Scrubs as their favorite, but my knee-jerk reaction is to call them CRAZY.) Battlestar Galactica (A fairly self explanatory choice) My Name is Earl (Jason Lee has been my favorite actor since I saw Mallrats, so even if the show had sucked, which it does not, it would still make my list.) The 4400 (I'm so hooked on this show. Like Lost except it 'didn't' start to suck.) How I Met Your Mother (Pound-for-pound one of the funniest sit-coms) South Park (I don't always agree with the show, but it always makes me laugh) Bones (I'm so happy to see Angel out in the sun, and with a job, and a girlfriend!) Stargate SG1/Atlantis (Sad to hear about SG1 getting canceled, but I think it's in some ways due. Atlantis has some terrible episodes, but when it's good, it's REALLY GOOD) Law & Order: SVU (Only SVU, the Original Recipe ain't bad, but not as good as SVU IMHO) *Honorable mentions to Psych, Eureka, and Life on Mars. All show promise, but haven't been on that long yet.
Some of the all time classics for me are (of recent memory): ST: DS9, and TNG West Wing Futurama Newsradio SNL (Currently dead, but we'll see if it can be revived) The Simpsons (Same as above) Cupid Chappelle's Show Angel Friends Coupling The Tick JAG

Hey Kaygee, I've been watching Life on Mars, and am digging the show. I was wondering tho, watching the show I've noticed alot of the characters on the show have Irish last names. Are there really so many Irish in Manchester?
